I downloaded a new update today (12/14/04) which had to do the reinstall of the program, after which it started a full system scan as usuall. After it did this I simply left for work and let it run. This was at 3:45pm.
I get home from work at 11:45 and it is STILL SCANNING! The timer on the actuall scanner says 490 some odd minutes into scan, which is about right for the time I was gone, so I can be relatively sure there wasn’t some crazy lock-up or slow down, as that usually tends to screw up the timer as well. At this point it was at around 130,000 files scanned, with 0 detections and 0 warnings.
I have, of course, done numerous system scans in the months (almost 2 years really) that I’ve used AntiVir and I have never once had it take even close to this long to scan.
The only things I can come up with that might have caused this are possibly a change in the archive scanner, as I do have a ton of archives, many of which are quite large. Other than that either a bug or some crazy virus I managed to get that somehow caused this. Any ideas plz respond =(
hello InfoBiter,
Welcome to CastleCops and the AVPE Forum.
If you are worried about an undetected virus go to this page (here in this forum): /postt75440.html and try one of the at #10: Free online antivirus scanners. Be sure to disable AVGuard for the scan.
How long were your previous scans?
I would most strongly suspect that something from that last update is not working properly, or it may have been a corrupted update install? Sounds like something is drastically slowing down the scan engine. Have you tried scanning in safemode? Instructions are at #1 in the list in the above link.
You could try uninstalling the program, cleaning out the registry (Use CrapCleaner or one of the other freeware registry cleaners because manual editing can be dangerous) and Temp folder of AntiVir entries, then download a fresh copy from CastleCops Downloads: /downloads-cat-7.html (2nd one from the top), install and update it again? It’s up to you as this may not be necessary and it might not work.
The alternative is to check the AVPE Support Forum in Germany (They have an English section there.) and wait for the next update. If this affects others, there is sure to be a fix for it.
Best regards
